Have you taught your child how to save themselves when the elevator breaks down? In Guangdong, China, a 6-year-old girl named Wenwen was riding the elevator with her friends when the elevator suddenly got stuck on the 8th floor and the lights went out. Adults might panic in such an emergency, but Wenwen was amazing and didn’t panic at all. She performed a textbook-level self-rescue. Wenwen first noticed that the button was not lit. She tried to press it but there was no response. She immediately pressed the alarm button in the elevator, then took out her phone watch and contacted her mother. What is most admirable is that she and her friends pressed their backs against the inner wall of the elevator, held their legs on both sides with their hands, and half-squatted, keeping this position steadily until the rescuers arrived. Afterwards, Wenwen’s mother was particularly relieved. She said that when they usually took the elevator, she would tell her daughter where the safety alarm was and how to contact the outside world in case they were trapped. She didn’t expect that the child would remember the reminder casually, and this knowledge can really save lives at critical moments. This incident reminds us that we should be more careful when taking the elevator, and pay special attention to teaching our children.
